Check List of Next Steps
We have put together some checklists for you to use as you move through your diagnosis of breast cancer.
Once you have found an abnormality in your breast:
- Contact your OB/GYN for an appointment.
- Seek a Mammogram to determine if your concerns are true.
- If signs of breast cancer are detected, meet with a surgeon.
- Ask your surgeon to do a breast cancer recurrence test like MammaPrint at the same time as the biopsy.
- Based on the outcome of the tests, work with your surgeon, oncologist, and family to determine the best course of treatment for you.
- Find a support group or develop your own to help you understand what you are going through.
- Educate yourself on all aspects of your disease, treatment and prognosis through your doctor, support group, breast cancer websites, etc.
When meeting with your surgeon and oncologist:
- Bring a family member or friend. Don’t do this by yourself.
- Write down any questions you have for the doctor prior to the visit.
- Record or write down all of the information your doctor tells you so you can assess it in more detail after you leave and refer back to it.
- Ask for a copy of your pathology report so you have it on hand.
