The mission of Agendia is to improve the quality of life for cancer patients by providing healthcare professionals and pharmaceutical companies with state-of-the-art testing services that enable safe and effective personalized medicine.
Clinically Relevant Gene Expression Profiling for Cancer Patients
As an innovative molecular cancer diagnostics company, Agendia uses its knowledge and expertise in the application of clinically useful gene expression profiling to facilitate diagnosis, prognosis and cancer therapeutics development.
Knowledge of a tumor's gene expression profile can for example, be used to predict the ability of an individual’s tumor to metastasize and provide valuable insights on a tumor’s likely response to chemotherapy and targeted biologic therapies. In these examples, the information obtained is crucial to enable physicians to tailor the best course of therapy for each individual patient.
For cancer researchers and pharmaceutical companies, Agendia’s tests allow them to differentiate between responders and non-responders when setting up clinical trials.
Agendia aims to develop a wide range of high-quality diagnostic methods using gene expression profiling based on microarray technologies to determine clinically relevant properties of tumors.
Agendia – A Growing Business
Established in 2003, Agendia has already introduced three tests to the market. Since 2003, the DiscoverPrint service has been offered to pharmaceutical companies focusing on the development of cancer therapeutics, enabling them to select the most appropriate candidates for clinical trials of personalized therapeutics.
In 2004, Agendia became the first company to commercialize a prognostic test that predicts the risk of breast cancer recurrence (MammaPrint). The company also introduced CupPrint, a test to identify the origin of a metastasis when the location of the primary tumor is unknown, so called “Cancer of Unknown Primary”.
In 2007, MammaPrint became the first in vitro Diagnostic Multivariate Index Assay (IVDMIA) to acquire clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Agendia recently presented its new colon cancer prognosis profile, ColoPrint, which is currently undergoing further validation in the anticipation of developing a test to predict the likelihood of the cancer spreading at an early stage in the disease.
In 2008, Agendia launched its diagnostic test TargetPrint for breast cancer patients, which allows physicians to obtain quantitative data about each patient’s hormonal status and adds an accurate prognostic tool for future treatment.
Agendia Today
In 2009 Agendia opened its 2nd CLIA and CAP certified and compliant genomics laboratory in Irvine, California to augment its testing capacity within the USA. Agendia’s corporate headquarters and 1st commercial genomics laboratory is located in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
The scientific and medical leadership of Agendia are the inventors and developers of novel diagnostic microarray profiles –the technology which forms the basis for the company’s commercially available tests.
Gene expression profiles are established through in-house research and development efforts, research collaborations and strategic alliances with leading academic institutes. In particular, Agendia has very close links, both geographically and collaboratively, with The Netherlands Cancer Institute.
Once validated, these profiles are used to develop commercially available tests utilizing the microarray technology. Tests are performed in Agendia's state-of-the-art genomics laboratories in Irvine, California or at the company’s headquarters in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
